In an interview Monday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi declared Republicans “enemies of the state” as well as a laundry list of other shocking insults while addressing election interference.
Pelosi‘s tirade about the rival political party and President Donald Trump occurred during an interview with MSNBC. She said the Republican Party are “domestic enemies” of America’s voting process. The House Speaker’s remarks were in response to the president’s appearance earlier in the day at the Republican National Convention.
“One thing I’ll say to the American people, don’t pay attention to Donald Trump. It’s his goal to scare people from voting, to intimidate them by saying he’s going to have law enforcement people at the polls. To welcome, in fact, Russia intervention into our election, letting Putin decide who will be President instead of the American people. But ignore him because his purpose is to diminish the vote, to suppress the vote,” Pelosi said, citing a long-debunked conspiracy theory about Russian meddling in the 2016.

“Shame on the Republicans for enabling that to happen. But we don’t agonize, we organize. People are right to be concerned because the President of the United States is saying what he’s saying. But don’t pay any attention to him. That’s just a victory for those who want to have lower turnout so that fewer people are engaged in the decision. Again, what happened in 2016 was discouraging, the Russians were there, and they’re there now, 24/7, trying to interfere in our election. But they’re not the only ones,” Pelosi continued.
She then pushed for the Democrat voters to “mobilize,” “organize” and not let the president “deter anybody from voting.”
“We take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. And sadly, the domestic enemies to our voting system and honoring our Constitution are right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with their allies in the Congress of the United States. But again, let’s just get out there and mobilize, organize, and not let the President deter anybody from voting. And again, support the postal system, which is election central. They’re doing everything they can, suppress the vote — with your actions, scare people, intimidate by saying law enforcement will be there, diminish the role of the postal system in all of this. It’s really actually shameful. Enemies of the state,” Pelosi told MSNBC.
MSNBC anchor Ayman Mohyeldin squeaked out the single word “wow” during the speaker’s charges but did not push back on any of the remarks before moving on to another topic.
Democrats have long opposed laws such as showing voter identification that are intended to deter fraudulent voting. Republicans say Democrats are using the COVID-19 health crisis to push the use of mail-in ballots for the 2020 general election as a way to circumvent the issue.
Democrats allege changes made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy have “slowed down” the mail delivery system. This caused the left to lay the blame on President Trump for tampering with the US Postal Service in order to put off people from voting with mail-in ballots in November.
Pelosi and House Democrats voted on Saturday to approve $25 billion in financial support for the US Postal Service to foil what they called election interference due to the slow process of mail-in voting.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) replied to the Pelosi interview in a tweet. “Never forget,” McCarthy wrote. “They despise you. And the worst part is they don’t even try to hide it.”
In 2016, they called you “Deplorables.”
Now, Nancy Pelosi calls all Republicans “domestic enemies.”

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), who was shot by a crazed Bernie Sanders volunteer in 2017, said the remarks were “disgusting” and asked the media to call out this rhetoric.
“I was shot because of this kind of unhinged rhetoric. Where’s the media outrage?” he tweeted.
