Public records reveal that the man who was arrested after he allegedly sucker-punched a supporter of President Donald Trump during last weekend’s “Million MAGA March” is also a registered child sex offender.
The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. took 39-year-old Kenneth Wayne DeBerry into custody on Saturday for disorderly conduct, as well as inciting violence, aggravated assault, and felony possession of a firearm after police discovered he was carrying a handgun, according to a statement from MPD.
The MPD Sex Offender Registry shows DeBerry is a registered sex offender who was convicted in 2008 in Washington, D.C. of second-degree child sexual abuse committed on a person under 16 years old.
Deberry was released from prison in January 2020, records show.
Journalist Andy Ngo posted a screenshot of DeBerry’s Twitter account, which noted DeBerry self-identified as a member of Black Lives Matter.
DeBerry was arrested along with three other suspected agitators during the pro-Trump march on Saturday, as reported by MPD. The incident happened on the 1700 block of I Street NW during the aftermath of the Million MAGA March.
“The suspects were involved in a collaborative effort to incite violence during first amendment assemblies at the listed location,” the MPD statement read. “One of the suspects struck the victim rendering him unconscious. Other suspects assaulted the victim and took his property. Four suspects were apprehended at the scene by responding officers.”
Jorge Ventura, a reporter for the Daily Caller, verified DeBerry was indeed the individual documented in the Scriberr News and the Daily Caller’s viral video footage which showed a man punching and bloodying an older Trump supporter when his back was turned.
The footage showed an assailant approaching the Trump supporter from behind and punching him in the head with such force that the victim fell face-first to the pavement and did not move for several frightening moments before he was assisted by witnesses in the area. As the man laid motionless on the ground, two women promptly stomped on him, with one landing a kick directly to his head.
It was also reported that the attacker stole the defenseless man’s phone.
In the video footage the victim was seen with blood running down his face and on his hands as people around him came to his aid. Another onlooker said a prayer over the dazed Trump supporter covered in blood. A nearby police officer in the video seems to be calling in the altercation on his radio to get assistance.
Videos of multiple assaults on peaceful conservative protesters from over the weekend have drawn a response from the American public. UFC fighter and Cuban-American Trump supporter Jorge Masvidal was angered after seeing the videos.
“I bet I can get a couple of teammates and start attending these things,” Masvidal wrote on his personal Twitter account.
He continued: “And I say this not to promote violence.
“To keep the peace. We are all in this together. #theresurrection.”
The Million MAGA March took place in response to irregularities and claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election, which has still not been decided, but has seen anti-Trump mainstream media declare Democrat Joe Biden the winner. The event saw hundreds of thousands of Trump’s voters fill the streets of D.C., and the president even made a brief appearance.
Twenty-one arrests were made in D.C. in the aftermath of the Million MAGA March. The MPD are still investigating the assault cases and are continuing to search for three additional suspects in connection with the attack.
