A woman has completely lost sight in both of her eyes after she decided that it would be a good idea to have both of her eyeballs dyed black.
Aleksandra Sadowska from Wroclaw, Poland, risked her eyesight when she tried to mimic the look of a rapper name Popek—famous around her country for having the whites of his eyes dyed black, according to The Brudda.
Sadowska realized that something had gone amiss when she started to feel pain in her eyes, complaining to the tattooist that something may have gone wrong. The tattooist, however, claimed that what the 25-year-old woman was experiencing was normal and that it could be cured with painkillers until her eyes had time to heal.
Despite doing as the tattooist advised, the woman has now lost sight in her right eyes and has been warned that the irreparable damage done to the left eye will soon have her blind in both eyes.
She said: “Unfortunately, for now doctors do not give me much optimism for improvement. The damage is too deep and extensive. I’m afraid I will be completely blind.”
She continued: “I will not lock myself in the basement and get depressed. I have sadness behind me, but I live on.”
There was reportedly an investigation into the event, where it was discovered that the tattoo artist who had done the procedure, known as Piotr A locally, made a number of significant errors while tattooing the woman’s eyes—the most serious of which was that he used ink that was exclusively meant for skin, which is never supposed to come into contact with someone’s eyes.
Sadowska’s attorneys got involved, saying that the tattooist clearly “didn’t know what he was doing.”
Sadowska’s lawyers noted: “There is clear evidence that the tattoo artist did not know how to perform such a delicate procedure. And yet he decided to perform it, which led to this tragedy.”
That tattooist is now facing three years in prison for severely disabling the woman. What’s worse is that the artist still has his shop open, where he continues to tattoo and pierce people.
The artist has thus far denied all the claims made against him, and his trial is set to begin soon, according to the Daily Mail.
But this is not the first time something like this has happened. The Sun reported that a similar course of events played out in New Wales, Australia, where a woman, Amber Luke, also lost her vision after having both of her eyeballs tattoed.
The 24-year-old spent over $35,000 AUD to have her body modified after undergoing an “excruciating” procedure to convert the whites of her eyes blue. Though the blindness was not permanent, she experienced blindness for three weeks while her eyes healed.
Luke apparently felt that changing her body would solve the depression she has experienced since she was 14 years old, and perhaps it has worked. She now enjoys hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and is known as the “Blue Eyed White Dragon” to her friends.
She began manipulating parts of her body when she was 16 years old, saying that she has “no regrets.”
She explained: “And I don’t worry what I’m going to look like when I’m older.”
She concluded: “I’m not harming anyone, I’m doing what I want to do and if it makes me get up in the morning and be a happy person, then so be it.”
There is no guarantee, however, that Sadowska will ever get her eyesight back like Luke did. It is not yet clear if Sadowska intends to sue the artist should the trial not go as expected.
