GERMAN DOC: THE HISTORY OF VICE PART 3

From a German Baby Monster who saw all three when they came out: "Compared to the other contributions of public broadcasting in Germany, this is a rather unagitated documentary. In the first part, one of the men interviewed calls Gavin a right-wing extremist. However, the documentary does not comment on this any further. It seems to remain an isolated opinion. Basically, the makers of the documentary seem to focus on Shane, especially in the second and third parts, and come down hard on him. Mismanagement, waste, bullshitting, a thirst for recognition, and a supposedly unsafe working atmosphere for women are all noted here. In between, Gavin talks briefly about the Proud Boys and mentions that it was all meant more as a joke. This is followed by a scene about January 6th and a scene in which some Proud Boys pray. I assume this is supposed to counteract Gavin's statement but it's almost subtle, considering that this documentary is from ARD (German public access). At the end, it becomes relatively clear that it is assumed that the new, fresh and unconventional things that once made up Vice went down the drain after Gavin left the magazine. It's the best you can expect from ARD."
